BE participation is a non-profit association based in Brussels. Grounded in a complex neighbourhood in one of the most populated areas of Brussels, 

BE participation aims at fostering empowerment processes which enable disadvantaged inhabitants to be active and responsible citizens. 

BE participation offers lifelong learning opportunities, training activities as well as enables participatory processes with local policy makers and other associations. 

Through its associates BE participation has got a lot of experience with EU-funded projects in the field of Science with and for Society.

Be participation staff has a long-lasting experience in approaching and engaging with local communities and socio-economically disadvantaged individuals. Through its activities, BE participation actively contributes to the SDGs.

Members of BE participation strongly believe in the importance of grounding SDGs in practical and sensible activities, which can help disadvantaged target groups to connect with them and see concrete implications in they everyday life.

BE participation is built on three pillars :

1. Responsible Citizenship through Education for Sustainable Development

Education for sustainable development and citizenship can guide effort and bring about systemic change. (Reference: UNESCO Guide on Education for Sustainable Development Goals: Learning Objectives 2017).

2. Sustainable development and Eco-citizenship

Transforming our consumer practices and making them eco-responsible is an important aspect of our association. We offer « Responsible Citizens » workshops and we accompany young people, families and all those who need information and personalised advice in the following areas: energy, water, mobility, waste, food, consumption, household accident prevention.

3. City for citizen: awareness of citizen participation

Promoting the development and planning of the Brussels-Capital Region in accordance with the principles of sustainable development. Through citizen action and an integrated and sustainable development of its territory, we want to highlight the diversity of inhabited areas and enhance the richness of its cultural and natural heritage.
